The Surf Therapy Fundraiser is a Roxy Davis Foundation initiative to raise funds to cover the costs for new underprivileged people with disabilities to attend and benefit from 6 Surf Therapy sessions each in 2024
The Wave Challenge is an opportunity for Donors/Sponsors of the 2024 Surf Therapy program to volunteer in a surf therapy session and experience the benefits, community upliftment and impact of surf therapy while having fun and setting a NEW RECORD.
In 2024 we would like to support 3 Groups of 10 surfers each from Special Needs Care Facilities (e.g. schools, homes, rehabilitation clinics, retirement facilities). These will be NEW surfers who are yet to experience the benefits of the ocean and Surf Therapy.

Yes, the Fundraiser is to support our mission:
The Foundation sustainably focuses on understanding, broadening, connecting, educating and sharing evidence-based best practice principles through delivering ongoing life changing ocean based experiences with the intended outcome of enhancing both peoples physical and mental well-being.
R10 000 covers 6 Surf Therapy sessions plus mobility friendly transport for 1 new surfer;
This is how we will manage and protect your investment:
- +-50% goes towards mobility transport (if we don’t provide transport the surfer can’t attend)
- a relative sum will be used to ensure the equipment is insured and stored safely each month
- a relative sum will be used to cover the operational cost associated with the direct use of the equipment i.e. transport, cleaning, maintenance and labour
- a relative sum will be allocated to operational costs i.e. safety training, coaches and medical response services
- 7% of the donation will be attributed to administration costs which ensures the program continues to run sustainably and meets the safety and governance levels.
Our overall aim when delivering the program is to ensure safety and impact; our approach is to seek support in the form of volunteers, in-kind donations/services etc and then to pay for core services where we need guarantees on quality/delivery or services which are compulsory for the program to exist.
This ensures that we keep our promise to each donor, sponsor and volunteer.

Great question! On this special day the Roxy Davis Foundation aims to highlight inclusion and the multiple ways we as a community can adapt - we will do this by sharing the Surf Therapy programme and the positive change it has for people with disabilities with you.
Everyday people create extraordinary moments, this is your opportunity to experience Surf Therapy and make a positive impactful change.
Bonus,
- Any new EQ skills you learn can be adapted in your everyday life
- you can volunteer at 2024 events and continue to be a part of an inclusive community
- with permission, you and the sponsored surfer can have a surf session together
Every surfer needs a team, some 2-3 volunteers/coaches and others up to 8. Depending on whether you/the volunteer would like to be on land or in the water - you will be allocated a role and receive training on the day. Safety first - there will be experienced volunteers in every team to make sure everyone is safe and having the best experience possible.
We have a waiting list of surfers, together we can surf the Wave Challenge.
Volunteers will meet early in the morning to prepare for the day, if you are an able bodied surfer - please consider volunteering and then joining for the Wave Challenge at the end of the day
Corporate and hero volunteer teams will experience
- a Blue Mind session promoting the positive impact that nature and the ocean has on your wellbeing
- a Safety Brief - protecting yourself and your surfer
- Surf Like me - surf like me a session where you can experience the challenge of surfing with adaptations as required by some of our surfers.
- Wave Challenge - meet your surfer, practise catching a few waves and then we all catch the same wave together
