2020 Volunteer Information

Welcome to 2020

Thank you for being part of the Roxy Davis Foundation Family. It is thanks to your valued support and participation that we are able to continue to run the Surf Therapy Clinics. The Clinics have grown exponentially over the last quarter (November 2019 – January 2020) and the final session of last year ended on a real high - 28 Surfers and 61 registered volunteers plus numerous new surfers and volunteers who wanted to be part of the action.

To make sure we continue to provide a safe and fun environment for everyone we are upgrading our programmes.

Future dates of the Free Sunday Clinics have been uploaded to our online Events Calendar

For a full calendar overview which includes ALL Events (Sessions and Training) see our 2020 CALENDAR OVERVIEW

We are looking at better ways to streamline the RSVP process ...watch this space:)

Volunteer Participation and Indemnity

Volunteers: We have updated our terms and conditions. For all volunteers (New or returning) please complete the participation form on the following link  https://roxydavisfoundation.org/register-to-volunteer/

If you know someone that would like to participate as a surfing in or sessions please share the following link: https://roxydavisfoundation.org/register-to-surf/

We will be reaching out to each of you shortly!

Behind the scenes we aim to have all surfers and volunteers book their attendance at least 7 days in advance; and we will meet with each brand new surfer or volunteer prior to the clinic explaining the new process.  With more knowledge upfront we will be able to plan the groups and share information with you in a constructive and timeous manner.  Over and above this the planning will allow us to prepare each team with the right balance of support needed according to the risk profiles of the surfers attending.

Sunday Surf Therapy Clinics

Many volunteers have asked how and where we need the most support. Thank you! We will be included a schedule for the clinic days where you can indicate how much time you have available and which tasks you would be able to assist us with.

We are appreciative of every minute of your time and thank you once again for sharing the gift of time with others! Our Sunday Clinics are slightly longer in 2020 to be able to accommodate more surfers and ensure their safety, fun and dignity are respected. If you are available to assist for the full duration please let us know and we will send you the schedule and specific areas you will be responsible for. We understand and appreciate that not everyone is able to stay for the full duration of the clinic so if you have a specific allowed time available on the day please indicate which time slot/s you can attend to ensure we plan accordingly.

We would also like to identify our "specialists" - those that are volunteering with experience in occupational therapy, physical therapy, special needs teachers or medical practitioners. We would like to ensure we have sufficient therapeutic support in each of the sessions and would like to hear more from you regarding programme input. Please get in touch!

Responsibility, Time Keeping and RSVP

As fun, dignity and safety are our priorities we would like to be as best prepared as possible ahead of the sessions. With that in mind we are all aware of the many moving parts during these sessions but we would like to ensure preparation to the best of our ability! In order for us to ensure the best experience is had for all involved please can you try attend sessions timeously. This is particularly necessary for volunteers assisting with specific roles.

Please RSVP giving us enough time to allow us to prepare each team with the right balance of support needed according to the risk profiles of the participants attending.  If for any reason you can't make it any more please let us know so we can restructure the groups and roles/responsibilities.

Surf Therapy Clinics in 2020

Feedback

Feedback:We welcome all feedback and really appreciate what you have to share and say. Over the next few months we will be building portfolios of all our surfers, their progress and ambitions. Please share information after each session as it will help the volunteers and surfers during the next session.
